Lord, I know You set my parents over me
\nAnd gave them their special authority
\nAs my teachers and examples in my daily walk;
\nYou use them to show me how to move and talk.
\nMany things through which I have already gone
\nThey have passed through in the years long
\nPreceding my birth-they know the struggle I face,
\nAnd You have commanded me to honor them in this place.
\nI should give them the same respect that I would give You,
\nBecause they care for and love me, too.
\nSo give me the strength to obey in all things,
\nTrusting that no matter what life flings
\nIn my path, causing me to stumble,
\nYou and they will always help me get out of the jumble
\nAnd mess I might make-You can straighten me out
\nUsing my parents as your tools-I don\u2019t doubt
\nThat, if and when I become a father too,
\nI will pray that I will act just like You.
\nThis is because You, above everyone else qualified,
\nShowed Your love for this child when You died.
\nAnd as a father, I should be willing and prepared
