{"id":269,"date":"2015-12-02T07:58:50","date_gmt":"2015-12-02T07:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/danielgaul.com\/?p=269"},"modified":"2015-12-02T07:58:50","modified_gmt":"2015-12-02T07:58:50","slug":"poem-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/danielgaul.com\/?p=269","title":{"rendered":"Poem #18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe Prodigal\u2019s Father\u201d (#18)<\/p>\n<p>Every day, he stood with a sad look in his eyes<br \/>\nAs he remembered his younger son, who had come to despise<br \/>\nThe blessings of home, and gone far away,<br \/>\nHe had been gone for many a day.<br \/>\nThe older son took no interest in finding and bringing him back<br \/>\nTo their father; if there was anything he did, it was to tack<br \/>\nAway from him-why follow him into that place of sin?<br \/>\nHe knew better than to let it suck him in.<br \/>\nWhy follow the lost brother?  He would only cause harm<br \/>\nTo his elder-it was safer right there on the farm.<br \/>\nBut when the younger son came back, the father was filled with joy;<br \/>\nHe prepared a feast to celebrate the return of his boy.<br \/>\nThe older son grumbled \u201cI never went astray,<br \/>\nBut Father never treated me this way.\u201d<br \/>\nThen the father said \u201cSon, all I have is your part,<br \/>\nBut you never asked what the desire was in my heart.<br \/>\nIf you really wanted to please me so,<br \/>\nI would have asked you to go<br \/>\nAnd seek your lost brother-for whom I also dearly care;<br \/>\nI know everything about him-down to the last hair.<br \/>\nI love you both, neither one of you is best;<br \/>\nI\u2019m just glad to have him back-I feel wonderfully blest.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe Prodigal\u2019s Father\u201d (#18) Every day, he stood with a sad look in his eyes As he remembered his younger son, who had come to despise The blessings of home, and gone far away, He had been gone for many a day.
